Meta Page Editor

 

This is a picture of the Text Editor (about half size). This is where you will spend much of your time when you are putting content onto the website. It allows you to input text, but it also gives you access to Image controls, Link controls, Template contols and the ability to import tables, HTML, and JavaScript tools as well.

You will be familiar with most of the icons from other desktop programs, and most will work in a similar way. Some icons will be new to you, or have additional attibutes which are described below. Let's identify the various items on the tool bar and see what they do. Some icons and tools marked * are not available in all cases.

The Save icon saves the current view of the page you are working on direct to the server. The page will normally be displayed on your website straightaway. When the page is displayed it will take on the style and attributes you have assigned (or have been assigned by the website designer) in the Behavior Editor. The Cut, Copy and Paste controls work in the normal way. The usual keyboard shortcuts: Cut [control + x], Copy [control + ], Paste [control + v] are also available.  The Find tool allows you to locate text on the page.  The Undo controls allow you to | Revert to Previous Content| Revert to Current Content (i.e. As the version was at the start of your current editing session) | Undo (ie Undo the last task) | Redo (i.e. Redo the last task). The Insert Table tool, and its associated icons allow you direct access to table controls in the page editor. You may fnd it more convnient to construct tables in an external HTML editor, uch as Notepad or Dreamweaver and then paste the necessary HTM into the page at the appropriate place using the  'Embed HTML' tool described below.  The Text attibute tool allows direct control of highlighted text in the Text Editor. You would normally not use this control, but rather use the Style tool in the Behavior editor for the secure page, section or entire site as this will ensure that text is displayed in a consistant manner.  The Text emphasis controls allowyou to set Bold, Italic or Underline characteristics of the text, within the overall Style set in the Behavior editor.  You can set the Text color with this tool. A dialog box will open and you can choose from a Color Picker, or enter a hex-colour of your own.  You can set the Text background 'highight' color with this tool. A dialog box will open ad you can choose from a Color Picker, or enter a hex-colour of your own.  The Text Alignment tools allow you to set text within the rules of an HTML environment.  The 'Insert Image' icon gives you access to the Image component. .  The 'Internal Link' icon gives you access to the Links Component.   The 'Internal Search' icon gives you access to the Internal Search component. This is available in the Intranet and Extranet packaes. It is an 'advanced' tool to allow the formattin of search results.  The 'Embed Template' icon gives you access to the Template omponent. This is available in the Extranet package. It is an 'advanced' tool to allow formatting of input, page display, email services and other data integration services.  The 'Edit HTML' icon opens a dialog box where you can insert HTML directly into the page. This is a powerful tools as it allows you to create tables and JavaScripts in an external editor and bring them into the website.  The Keywords entry box allows you to associate keywords' with an individual page to assist in indexing and advanced search functions.
